Financial Aid
Syracuse University undergraduate students can receive need and merit-based financial aid in a variety of ways. The most common form of undergraduate financial aid is through federal or private loans which are disbursed twice a year in the fall and spring semesters.

Federal educational loans are offered by the federal government and are the most popular form of financial aid. Students are required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form in order to receive the loan. Other loans offered through SU include the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and Federal PLUS Loans for parents of dependant undergraduate students. Visit SU’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs Web site to download forms or stop in the office at 200 Archbold for additional information.

Alternative Loans are issued by private loan programs and are not associated with the federal government. Alternative loans are encouraged as a last resort if a student cannot receive government aid.
Scholarships are awarded to students based on merit and academic accomplishment. Student admission applications are reviewed for scholarship opportunities both through Syracuse University and the Whitman School. There are also other outside scholarship opportunities available throughout a student’s education at the school.
