Whitman Style Guide
What is the Martin J. Whitman School of Managagement Logotype?
The Martin J. Whitman School of Management Logotype is the standard typographic
representation of the school. It was designed to communicate the strength and tradition
of Syracuse University’s School of Management as well as its innovative energy and
its enthusiasm for the future. It was also designed to visually articulate the school’s
place within Syracuse University. Keeping in sight the versatility needed to use
the logo in a variety of school publications and promotional materials, several
variations have been designed. The following pages show the logotype and all its
acceptable variations, including:
- The colors and sizes in which the logotype should be reproduced
- A standard set of fonts for use in publication display copy (headlines, titles etc.)
often used in conjuction with commonly available text fonts such as Times Roman
and Arial
- A pair of standard colors, for reproduction of the logo to be matched as closely
as possible in printed and electronic media
Who uses the logotype?
The logotype will be used on all publications and promotional items produced by
the Whitman School. It is meant to standardize references to the school, and to
thereby build accrued recognition of the Whitman School as an entity with its own
character and reputation. Departments and programs within the Whitman School that
currently have graphic identities of their own must begin to incorprate the Whitman
School logotype according to the graphic guidelines for color and typography described
within this document. Logos are available at

How does the logotype work with the University’s Graphic Identity
Program?
The Syracuse University Publications Office provides a variety of letterhead-related
materials in the standard SU Seal program. You are required to use the SU program
for those items. Visit the Electronic Publishing Center for information.
Furthermore, there are policies for use of the SU Seal that forbid its combination
with other logos, including the Whitman School Logo. In short, the Whitman school
logo and SU seal or logo are not to be used in combination on a printed piece. For
full guidelines, request a copy of "A Guide to Graphic Identity Standards" from
SU News and Publications at 443-2233.
